CNN primetime host Chris Cuomo has been officially fired from the cable news network.
“Embattled CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has been fired by the network, in the wake of new revelations about his close involvement with the political woes of his brother, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo,” the NY Post reported.
CNN confirmed the firing in a statement to the NY Post, and said that Cuomo had been “terminated … effective immediately” as an outside law firm continues to investigate “his involvement with his brother’s defense.”
The network earlier “indefinitely suspended” Cuomo after explosive new documents were released by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The “indefinite suspension”was followed by the “kiss of death” for Fredo.
The documents showed that Cuomo abused his journalistic position to attempt to uncover information about a sexual harrassment accuser who had leveled allegations against his brother former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The development was reported on Tuesday night: “CNN indefinitely suspends Chris Cuomo after explosive documents released by state Attorney General Letitia James,” Disclose reported.
The CNN pundit secretly contacted news industry ‘sources’ for advance information about the sexual harassment scandal that later forced his brother and former NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo from office,” the report continued.
In a prepared statement, CNN earlier said the documents “shed new light on Chris Cuomo’s involvement in his brother’s defense.”
“The documents, which we were not privy to before their public release, raise serious questions,” the network said.
“When Chris admitted to us that he had offered advice to his brother’s staff, he broke our rules and we acknowledged that publicly,” CNN continued. “But we also appreciated the unique position he was in and understood his need to put family first and job second.”
“However, these documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother’s efforts than we previously knew,” the network added. “As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation.”
The bottom line is that it appears that “Fredo” was attempting to use his journalistic connections to dig up dirt on his brother’s sexual assault accusers.
The details of the documents were indeed, damning. The Los Angeles Times provided a glimpse at the alleged wrongdoing.
“Details of CNN anchor Chris Cuomo’s involvement in managing brother and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s sexual harassment scandal are raising new concerns inside the cable news network,” the Times reported.
“Transcripts of Chris Cuomo’s testimony for New York State Atty. Gen. Letitia James’ investigation showed the CNN star offered to contact other journalists he knew to learn if there were any new women coming forward to make accusations against his brother,” the report continued.
“Chris Cuomo gave a deposition in July for the report that found the former governor had sexually harassed 11 women, including several who worked with him,” the report added.
“According to texts in the attorney general’s report released Monday, Chris Cuomo firmly weighed in on the communications strategy for his brother’s response to the scandal as it unfolded earlier this year and offered to investigate at least one claim.”
CNN decided not to take Chris Cuomo back as a primetime host after the devastating scandal, contrary to many viewers’ expectations.
